[edit] Mission

Citizen Action of Wisconsin organizes people to make Wisconsin a better place to live and work. We are a grassroots organization that brings together more than 85,000 individual members and over 100 diverse coalition partners to help elect progressive candidates to public office and create a better future for families and communities.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin organizes people to make Wisconsin a better place to live and work. In 2005, together with our 501(c)(3) sister organization, Citizen Action of Wisconsin Education Fund, we held 95 events and mobilized more than 5,000 individuals to take action, from writing letters and participating in rallies to holding press conferences and training sessions. We generated a total of 152 press hits.

People are the Source of Our Strength

Citizen Action has over 85,000 individual members. They come from all over Wisconsin, from each of our 99 State Assembly districts, and from all walks of life. They are rural and urban; young and old; lower, middle, and upper income; male and female; multi-racial; and have different faiths and political persuasions. Approximately 45 percent are Democrats, 35 percent Republicans, and 17 percent Independents.

Our members hear from us. We regularly communicate with our members, including newsletters, quarterly phone calls, and monthly email alerts to over 15,000 activists in our electronic network. Our members take action. In an average year, Citizen Action members generate over 6,000 letters, postcards, and telewires on our issues from our members to their elected officials.

We Bring People Together Across Issue Lines

Citizen Action unites over 100 dues-paying affiliates in the fight for a better future for our families and communities. We also work with many organizations across the broader "progressive coalition." Our partners include the state's leading labor, senoir citizen, environmental, community, interfaith, women's, family farm, teacher's, and civil rights organizations and Native American tribes, including: Action Wisconsin, AFSCME, Clean Wisconsin, Hmong/American Friendship Association, Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Voces de la Frontera, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), and the Wisconsin Farmers Union. Citizen Action brings together these diverse groups to form a united front and work together around common goals.
